Philosophy:

We, the Winkler family, have been running our private brewery responsibly and in the spirit of sustainable corporate development for generations. The base for this is respectful, fair and cooperative interaction with each other. We know our roots and feel strongly connected to our region. That's why we brew our beers to the liking here in the Oberpfalz, where our beer is perceived as part of the local culture and way of life. The fact that regionality and sustainability are very close to our hearts is also demonstrated by the fact that, to this day, we source our brewing barley from farmers in the Amberg-Sulzbach district and have it delivered directly to the malt factory in Sulzbach. In addition, we only fill our beers in kegs or environmentally friendly returnable bottles that can be reused up to 50 times on average and then recycled as used glass.

The Story:

The history of the Winkler brewery began in 1617, when the "Weißbräugesellschaft" (White Brewing Company) purchased a plot of land in Obere Nabburger Gasse in order to build the brewhouse on it, where the beers of the Winkler brewery are still brewed today. Almost 300 years later, in 1913, the brewer Josef Winkler bought business shares in the Kommunbrauhaus as well as the pub in Untere Nabburger Straße 34, where the Winkler BräuWirt is still located today. In the period after the First World War, Josef and Kunigunde Winkler built up their company with a lot of passion and effort. After the death of the founder, his son, also Josef, completed an apprenticeship as a brewer, took over the brewery together with his wife Mathilde in 1949 and also reopened the inn. After the third generation Josef Winkler took over, the business was consistently expanded and modernized. Since 2016, the fourth generation, Maximilian Winkler, has been active in the family brewery. He had previously studied brewing and beverage technology in Weihenstephan and was able to gain experience through several stays at breweries in Germany and abroad.
