"I have always loved to bake and cook and have great pleasure in trying out and creating. The traditional caraway liqueur according to the old recipe of my grandmother is something very special: It not only comes from organic farming and is lovingly handmade, but is also very tasty and especially good for digestion. In my childhood, wild caraway was still a familiar sight in fields and meadows in the Oberpfalz. The liqueur made from it was then a remaining regional specialty in the whole Oberpfalz, similar to the Ouzo in Greece. Through my manufactory, I keep this old tradition alive and awaken new enthusiasm for it in people. It is important to me to use only the best regional caraway from the Oberpfalz for the production and to do without additives of any kind. The result is a soothing stomachflatterer with a 34 percent alcohol content that will convince not only self-confessed caraway lovers!"
Around 2001, Edeltraud Schafhauser made caraway liqueur for the first time using her grandmother's old recipe. The liqueur was initially intended only for home use and served as a gift for friends and family. But it soon enjoyed increasing popularity. The enthusiasm for the traditional Oberpfalz drink was so great that Edeltraud Schafhauser began offering her caraway liqueur at weekly and Christmas markets as well as in farm stores in the region. Today, more than 20 years later, Edeltraud Schafhauser still produces her caraway liqueur by hand and according to the traditional family recipe. Back then, she would never have imagined that she would one day sell several hundred liters of her liqueur.
