Philosophy:

"In our family business we breed rainbow trout, brown trout, salmon trout and char. In the process, we accompany the animals over a period of two years, from the tiny fish egg to the fish ready for slaughter, and provide the best care on a daily basis: daily feeding, repeated sorting according to size, and transferring the fish to other ponds are necessary for the fish to develop optimally - so a lot of work goes into each individual animal. Thus, the small fish remain in the hatchery of the breeding station for about the first 6 months of their lives before they can be released into the ponds outside. We are happy to take this time because we are convinced that the gentle rearing, animal welfare and high-quality feed are reflected in the excellent quality of our food fish."

The Story:

Christian and Bettina Grasse are the second generation of the Grasse family to continue fish farming. Christian's parents took over an existing fish farm with just 6 ponds in 1982 and have continuously expanded it to currently 24 ponds. In addition, the farm has its own hatchery and broodstock. This makes the Grasse family's fish farm one of the last ten private farms in Bavaria to rely on its own egg production. After studying business administration, son Christian spent some time gaining experience in various fish farms before he started working in his own family business in 2013 and now manages it.
